Making Good Financial Support More Accessible

Running a business is hard enough without feeling lost when it comes to the numbers. Good bookkeeping, financial systems, and practical guidance can make an enormous difference in whether a small business simply gets by or has the opportunity to grow.

But not every business owner starts with the same access to those resources.

Each year, Creative Freedom Bookkeeping provides our services at no cost to up to two business owners who might otherwise have difficulty accessing professional financial support, with a particular focus on Black and Indigenous business owners, people of color, and business owners with disabilities.

This isn’t a separate version of what we do. It’s the same professional bookkeeping, education, and support we provide our paying clients—including setting up strong accounting systems, monthly bookkeeping, budgeting, tax preparation support, and helping business owners better understand what their numbers are telling them.

I started Creative Freedom because I genuinely love helping creative people build businesses that give them more freedom in their lives. Over the years, I’ve also seen how much of an advantage it is to have someone in your corner who understands the financial side of running a business. I have that knowledge, and sharing some of it without expecting payment in return feels like a meaningful way to use it.

My hope is that the people we work with leave with more than clean books. I want them to understand their finances, feel confident making decisions, and have systems that continue serving them long after our work together.

There are much bigger forces behind inequity than any bookkeeping firm can solve, and I don’t pretend otherwise. This is simply one small, tangible thing I can do with the skills I have.

Two businesses a year. Real work, provided completely free. And hopefully, an opportunity for those businesses—and the people behind them—to build something lasting.
